The Physics Classroom reading and notes

The sections are on different HW assignments because of the missed day last week.  Please check your assignment carefully.

Galileos and Einsteins: your HW is to finish the Cars on a Ramp lab, including the two graphs and questions.  That is due Wednesday.  What is described below will be your HW for Wednesday night (due Thursday).

Wednesday night: Galileos and Einsteins are doing the reading below.  Newtons should review the information and make sure they are familiar with the terms listed below.

HW is to read two sections in the Physics Classroom.  Go to Physics Tutorial, 1-D Kinematics, and read sections 1d and 1e (both in Lesson 1, they are 1d Speed and Velocity and 1e Acceleration).  During the reading, pay attention to the following:

  • the difference between calculating speed and calculating velocity
  • the definition of average velocity
  • the difference between average velocity and instantaneous velocity (it describe average speed and instantaneous speed but its basically the same thing)
  • the definition of acceleration
  • the equation to calculate acceleration
  • the units for acceleration
