MCAS review

Congratulations on being all done with learning new physics stuff!  We will spend a few days of review and practice for the MCAS next Tuesday and Wednesday.  Tonight do the 2012 MCAS, posted in the MCAS review folder.

Please Note: There is an error in the BHS planner.  MCAS will be on Tuesday and Wednesday, NOT Monday.  The schedule will remain as is in the planner with a Monday morning X block.

Quiz on Heat Wed all sections

Quiz for all sections on Wednesday.  By then, you should complete "Q=mcdeltaT joules" problems, "more q=mcdeltaT problems," and the Heat Study Guide.

UPDATE: Answer Key to study guide posted in Heat folder

HW after Heat Day 1

Thursday Night for Galileos and Einsteins, Friday night for Newtons:

Read in The Physics Classroom, Tutorial, Thermal Physics, Lesson 1: Methods of Heat Transfer.

Remember that hot things have more KE than cool things, and that heat flows from hot things to cool things.  This lesson describes three ways in which the heat can be transferred.  For each method: conduction, convection and radiation, describe how the KE of the atoms in each substance is changed.

HW after Waves test

Final Unit coming up!

HW: Go to The Physics Classroom, Physics Tutorial, Thermal Physics. Read "Temperature and Thermometers," and "What is Heat?" up to 'The Zeroeth Law of Thermodynamics.'  Open a note in Notability and answer the following questions:

1.  How does The Physics Classroom define temperature?
2.  What happens to the volume of liquid in a thermometers when the temperature increases?
3.  How is a Celsius thermometer calibrated?
4.  Write out a table with the following temperatures in both F and C (you may have to look some up):
 a. temp at which water freezes/melts
 b. room temperature
 c. human body temperature
 d. temperature at which water boils/condenses

5. What is the Kelvin scale?  How large is a Kelvin degree compared to a Celsius degree?
6. What is absolute zero?  What happens at that temperature?
7. What term describes both how coffee cools down and soda (pop!?!?) warms up?
8.  What is thermal equilibrium?
